Dogwood 18 Is Here! And it’s July, so our 2020 Literary Awards are accepting submissions. Poets and prose writers eligible to win $1,000 and publication.

The 2020 Dogwood Literary Awards are now open for submissions.  Poets, essayists and fiction writers my submit their work at the link below, or learn more by visiting the “submit” button from the Dogwood home page.  The best story, poem, and work of nonfiction will each receive $1,000 and publication in Dogwood’s 2020 issue.  All finalists are also offered publication.  Submissions close September 5th.

Though the judges for the contest change every year, all submissions are considered for publication by the editors.  To familiarize yourself with last year’s issue, consider ordering a Dogwood 2019, Issue 18, now in stock and ready to ship to any one who follows this link to purchase a copy.

Also, we are excited to announce that this year’s issue of Dogwood is in house and ready to ship.  We would like to congratulate all of our authors on their work and thank the community of writers that support Dogwood’s publication by entering our annual award.  We had hundreds of submissions in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, and we couldn’t be prouder of the nineteen authors whose work appear in print.

This year’s cover features the work of Frederick Gunn, an artist in the Prison Arts Program, a program of Community Partners in Action, a nonprofit agency created in 1875, which focuses on behavioral change and advocates for criminal justice reform.  We are grateful to Mr. Gunn and to the CPA’s Prison Arts Program, both of which remind us that art at its best reaches out from the artist’s potentially confining specificity towards those with different experiences.  Read more about this beautiful piece, and how it relates to the work of our contributors, by purchasing a copy of Dogwood at this link.

Again, congratulations to all contributors, and thanks for all the ways you support Dogwood by reading, submitting, or passing the word.
